The chain could have skipped teeth, or a sticking valve and it can have a bend valve stem now. But indeed you should have a check engine light with a P030- code (- = cylinder number) or P0300 for multiple cylinder misfire.

With that in mind, I raised the hood of our '99 4.0L WJ at 1:00 a.m. to snap this picture of the oil pressure sending unit. And yes, I am aware that the valve cover gasket is leaking like a sieve.
GSUDave. 5 posts 路 Joined 2011. #19 路 Mar 23, 2011. I have a 2001 4.7 w/ 140K and it was burning a quart every 2000 miles. I tried Castrol High Mileage 10W30 a couple of times and saw no change. The last 2 times I went with Castrol HM 10W40 and added half a can of Seafoam to my oil changes.
293 posts 路 Joined 2003. #27 路 Jul 12, 2013. When I change the oil in my Jeep (4.0L engine). I put 5 quarts in. Then wait 15 minutes or so, to let the oil go down to the oil pan. I check the dipstick. If it's not enough, I pout 1/2 quart in, then check the dipstick again. When the oil level looks good.

Be careful of touching hot exhaust pipes. Remove the drain plug (counter clockwise) and let oil drain, preferably for at least 15-20 minutes. Caution: Oil may be very hot! 6. Replace the oil pan drain plug and tighten to 20 ft. lbs./27 N路m (clockwise). Clean all areas around the drain plug with a shop rag.
850 posts 路 Joined 2010. #11 路 Feb 26, 2012. if your worried about numbers just get a mechanical oil pressure guage from auto zone. very easy to install. but my oil on my 4.7 HO goes from about 45-50 at idle and up to 70 while wheeling.
